Catanzaro: French Fetish Designer Offers Lingerie

Patrice Catanzaro was at the recent International Lingerie Show in Las Vegas to exhibit to the U.S. market his new lingerie collection, first shown at the Salon International de la Lingerie in Paris in January. This is the first full lingerie collection from the Marseille-based designer who is described on his own web site as “the undisputed master of fetish clothing” and told BODY he has been designing for 30 years.

Shapeez Moves Office, Adds 3 New Products

Shapeez has moved its headquarters and U.S. distribution center to a larger space “to accommodate new products and sales growth” according to David Berner, executive vice president and CFO. The new, 8,000 square foot facility remains in the city of Gaithersburg, Maryland, where the previous office was located, and has the potential to be expanded to 16,000 square feet.

Infinity Classics Seeks Sales Reps As It Grows

Infinity Classics, which produces an extensive variety of leg wear for women and children as well as shapwear, maternity intimates and other accessories, is expanding its network of sales personnel, according to Mark Kimmelman, a sales executive who joined the company late last year. Independent sales reps are currently being evaluated for various territories and product categories.

April Lingerie, Costume Shows In Las Vegas

“Pre-registration is very solid, one of the better ones,” declared Michael Moreira of Specialty Trade Shows, referring to the retailer attendee list for the International Lingerie Show and Las Vegas Halloween show, which will be held jointly next week (April 8-10) at the Rio Hotel. “We also have a bunch of new clients, some in very unique categories, that fit perfectly with what we have to offer.”

Nine Iron: New Color For Anita’s ‘Ella’ Range

Starting in June, Anita is offering an interesting new color to its Rosa Faia “Ella” collection: Nine Iron. White will also be offered in the collection, and both feature “romantic flower embroidery on stretch tulle” and “filigree embroidery on the interlock fabric on the lower cup and side panel.”

American Eagle Closing Additional Aerie Stores

While 2012 sales and earnings were up for American Eagle Outfitters, Inc., which currently sells “aerie” lingerie online and in its stores, including 151 dedicated exclusively to the brand, there are signs that the company is not as excited about the category as it once was. While in previous years American Eagle had opened new aerie stores annually, it changed course and closed seven in 2012 and in its recently released annual report it said it planned to close an additional “15 to 20” in 2013.

Felina Shipping ’Body Jewels’ Lingerie in April

Body Jewels, the “young, fresh and lively” new collection from the same group that owns Felina, will ship “at the end of April” to various stores around the country according to Willy Mrasek, creative director. “JCP along with another major retailer [are] bringing it in under their private label brand. (We feel this flexibility adds to the appeal especially for those accounts wanting their own brand represented but not wanting to commit to their own MOQ’s [minimum order quantities]).”

Music Legs is about to release its 2013 lingerie catalog, this one 294 pages, with a dramatic front and back cover featuring two intricately detailed pieces emblematic of the new designs contained inside. Indeed, according to Anna Cruz, marketing manager, there are a “total of 149 new styles” in all, with the new plus size pieces, for the first time, “photographed on a queen size model.”

Barbara Now In World’s 4th Largest Store Group

“The big news is that Barbara is entering El Corte Inglés big time, in Spain,” Hubert Lafont, directeur general, wrote BODY in an e-mail today. “We start with 10 stores, but they add one per month.” The news is significant because Barbara has been seeking to break back into U.S. department stores, and El Corte Inglés S.A. (or ECI) which translates to “the English cut” is not only the largest department store group in Spain, but also in Europe. It is the fourth largest group in the world with sales of €15.8 billion (about $21 billion) in 2011.

Miss Magic, Je Dit Are New Lingerie Brands

Perfect System Limited, a Hong Kong-based private label lingerie and swim producer, was at the most recent CurveNY looking to find retailers for its own brands in these categories. Founded in 1998, Perfect did not offer the new labels: Je Dit (“feminine lingerie”), Miss Magic (“young and trendy underwear”), Magic Beach (“swimwear line for fresh and young summer feeling”) and Magic Plus swim until last spring.

Coobie Introduces Tie-Dye Color Variations

Coobie, a brand from Total Stockroom of North Carolina, has just introduced two tie-dye color variations of its existing V-neck and scoop-neck bras, which were on display for the first time at the recent MAGIC Show in Las Vegas. One color version is a mix of lime green and purple; the other blue and pink. Both are hand dyed and have a bright, almost “dayglo” look.

Moda Seta Distributing Luxury Intimates in US

NaïS: Unusual Lingerie Created in Brooklyn

French trained Anaïs Bouchard launched her lingerie collection, NaïS [pronounced nice], last May and showed it at the Pool trade show for the first time last August, where we first saw it, and then again at the same show in February. This time there were many more pieces along with reports that the label is already selling at a variety of U.S. retailers.

Yummie Intros ‘Pretty Powerful’ Shapewear

Yummie by Heather Thomson has introduced a new collection, Pretty Powerful, that the company says it constructs with a Lycra “state-of-the-art shaping fabric” that is “designed to improve the effectiveness of shapewear while delivering sculpting, smoothing, comfort and style.” There are four styles in the collection (joining many others the company offers) which retail from $42 to $88. The black and nude designs are offered in sizes XS to XL and “will be sold at major department stores, specialty stores and are already selling at www.YummieLife.com.

LéA, Elegant Sleepwear, Looking To Sell In U.S.

LéA is an elegant sleepwear brand, made in Abu Dhabi, with eventual plans to sell in the U.S. market on its “agenda” according to director Nathalie Abdou. Gulf Ready Made Garments, parent to the brand, does private label production for many companies in the Middle East and Persian Gulf, and produces underwear under another of its own brands: Ellina Lingerie. Nathalie’s sister Christine is in charge of the production of the LéA sleepwear.

Royce: ‘Liberty’ Nursing Bra Wholesales For $25

Royce Lingerie, the British wire free bra specialist, has introduced the new “Liberty” bra for expecting and breast feeding mothers. Style 1776 is a smooth cup bra that comes in U.S. 34 to 40, in cups D, DD, E, F and G. “Skintone” is the only color and the wholesale price is $25. The bra is exclusive to this country and joins about a dozen other nursing bras in the company’s collection.

Fashion Forms Launches New Leopard Print Bra

Fashion Forms has introduced a new backless, strapless adhesive bra in a leopard print. Shown for the first time to buyers during the recent New York market week, the bra, part of the company’s Go Bare collection, is designed to retail for $36. It will ship in late August.

Maidenform: Comfort, Okay. But Now Sexy?

The latest consumer focus groups must be telling Maidenform that “comfort” is one of the things women want most in their intimate apparel. After all, the word appears six times in the firm’s latest press release describing its Amsterdam fashion show in late January where it launched “The Art of Form, Maidenform’s new global brand platform— a sexy campaign that embraces the art and beauty of the female form.” But, come to think of it, the word “sexy” appears twice — once as “ultra sexy” — not an association the company has invited much in the past.

Hanes Profits Up, Sales Down In First Quarter

HanesBrands reported net income for the first quarter of 2013 of $51.4 million on declining sales of $945.5 million, compared with a loss in the same period last year of $26.8 million on sales of $973.1 million. According to Amie Preston, chief investor relations officer at Limited Brands (which is now calling itself L Brands), Victoria’s Secret “March comparable sales increased 2% on top of 10% last year driven by strength in Pink bras and panties and beauty.” Overall, for all its stores and brands, Limited “reported a comparable store sales increase of 3 percent for the five weeks ended April 6, 2013, compared to the five weeks ended April 7, 2012.”

PVH Corp. reported increased sales and earnings for 2012, while at the same time warning that after evaluating its recent purchase of Warnaco (which closed in mid-February) “we believe that additional investments above our initial expectations are required to achieve our goal of rebuilding the global Calvin Klein jeanswear and underwear businesses,” according to Emanuel Chirico, chairman and CEO of PVH. Frederick’s of Hollywood Group Inc. reported Friday a $10 million sale of preferred stock to a holding company with no apparent experience in apparel, which could give the purchaser control of the lingerie retailer should it invest more and exercise its various other options to do so. While HanesBrands profits for 2012 were down significantly compared to 2011, fourth quarter profits almost doubled and the company expects both sales and profits to increase for 2013. Maidenform President To Leave January 28th

Maidenform reported that its president, Malcolm Robinson, will be leaving Maidenform “to pursue other opportunities, effective January 28, 2013” adding that “following his employment Mr. Robinson will continue to receive his base salary plus an additional increment to defray any medical and disability insurance premiums and expenses. In addition, each of the long-term incentives granted to Mr. Robinson on December 1, 2011 will vest.” His annual salary was $600,000 and the incentives described in his employment contract were valued at $1 million.
