(Filed Under wholesale Lingerie News). French Cancan has introduced its fall/winter 2009/2010 collection of hosiery, accessories and lingerie titled Cabaret De Luxe encompassing the six lines Rendez vous; Précieuse; Vaporeuse; Elégante; Cabaret; and Exquise. Each line includes between four and six silhouettes including leggings, socks, thigh-stockings, and leg jewelery, as well as gloves, garter belts, camisoles and bras, making up a total of 38 silhouettes. The company said about Cabaret de Luxe: “On the program this season: twirling glamorous black sublimated by silky Calais lace.
“Lingerie sets totally devoted to seduction. The lingerie lines are echoed in the leading accessories, true trademarks of the French Cancan brand. The stockings and leggings sublimate the gait, the cuffs have an exquisite Roaring twenties touch.” The company added that the collection is related to those it has launched in the past with its “sexy sobriety [and] naughty attractiveness.”
Although prices for the collection have not yet been set for the American market, French Cancan hosiery tends to retail from approximately $70 to $230 in the U.S. Hosiery sizing runs in one size; however, the company plans to increase sizing “because of demand.”
Signature groupings in Cabaret De Luxe include Précieuse; made using lace stitching and pleating work and embellished in Swarovski paste. Shear stockings and cuffs are designed to complement a see-through negligee and garter belt. Also of note is Cabaret, which recalls the European cabaret tradition with its bright red bra and panties lined in black ruffles. Black stockings complete the line's “Moulin Rouge stylishness.”
Founded in France in 2006 as a legging, cuffs and hosiery brand, French Cancan expanded into lingerie in recent years in order to offer women a complete look. The company described its typical customer as a woman aged 40 and above due to the price point; “20-year-old women are often mad about the products but can’t afford them yet,” Arnaud Dubois with the company said. The brand can be found in 160 retail outlets worldwide throughout Europe, the Middle East, the United States and Japan. U.S. carriers include Brocante Boutique in Wimberly, Tex., Kapreeza, Inc. in San Diego, Calif. and Oh Baby in Portland, Ore.
Caithrin, a manager at Brocante who declined to give her last name, commented about French Cancan: “They make those one-of-a-kind products that you really cannot get anywhere but Paris, and we specialize in selling original merchandise here at Brocante. Even though the brand is a higher price point, women understand that they are paying for great quality, and so it still sells well.” The store carries the brand’s leggings, cuffs and gloves. Caithrin said that the brand has been particularly popular among fashionable brides-to-be in their late 20s and 30s.
