Delta Apparel, Inc. reported total sales of $99.1 million during the first quarter ended September 26, 2009, an 8.4 percent jump from last year’s first quarter sales. Net income increased $1.9 million to $2.6 million, or 30 cents per diluted share, compared to net income of $0.7 million, or 8 cents per diluted share, during last year’s comparable period.
The company’s retail-ready segment—comprised of the Soffe, Junkfood and To The Game subsidiaries—cited sales of $52.0 million; a 25.5 percent increase. This growth was partially due to the acquisition of To The Game during the fourth quarter of 2009, which brought in $6.0 million in sales during this year’s first quarter. However, the company’s activewear segment—comprised of the Delta catalog and FunTees businesses—cited a 5.7 percent drop in sales, which totaled at $47.1 million.
For fiscal year 2010 ending July 3, 2010, the company reiterated its expectations for net sales to be in range of $360 million to $380 million, and earnings to be between 80 cents and $1 per diluted share.
