(Filed Under wholesale Costume News). Even though we haven’t yet hit this year's Halloween, Forplay is already gearing up for the launch of next season's costume catalog. The company will debut the catalog at the upcoming Halloween & Party Expo tradeshow, set to take place in Houston in January 2010. Although it is still in production, assistant buyer Angelica Van estimates that the catalog will include between 70 and 75 new styles and a total of approximately 175. Sizes will run in Forplay’s standard range of XS/S through 2/3X. Wholesale prices have not yet been finalized, but Van expects them to run in the range of the high-teens to low-40s, commenting; “We have definitely been more price conscious this year, and want to continue to pass the savings along to our customers. Additionally, each wholesale price encompasses the accessories that go with each [respective] costume.”
Although the 2010 catalog features many traditional styles, Van emphasized that the designs are anything but ordinary. “We have been paying extra attention to trends and adding details that make our costumes truly stand-out. These are not designs you will everywhere in the market.” This has included adding “glitz and glamour” to the company’s sailor and policewoman costumes, which have remained best sellers over the years.
Also new are more storybook characters than in recent seasons; “But with our own, unique spin,” said Van. “We’ve offered storybook characters in the past, but we took a break and now they are back for the upcoming season.”
In the 2009 catalog, police and sailor costumes have been the best-selling styles for this Halloween season. According to Van, Forplay added its own twist on the traditional sailor costume this year by keeping it trend-right. “We included high-waisted pants on one sailor and on another we designed a chic tube dress with the ribbon detailed hat and matching gloves. It looks like a cute outfit as opposed to just a costume; perfect for our fashionista customer.”
“In fact, a lot of these costumes have accessories that can be worn to the clubs with outfits. For the price of one, women can buy both a costume and a high-fashion outfit.”
