(Filed Under wholesale Shapewear News). Coconut Grove Intimates has secured the North American rights to a fabric technology called DreamSkin. According to Cortney Scheiner, vice president of sales and operations for the company, Coconut Grove is developing a line consisting predominantly of shapewear and shaping hosiery using the technology, which it expects to launch by late spring, 2010. She added that the “unique technology” has already seen great success in the UK hosiery markets.
According to Coconut Grove, when applied to fabric Dreamskin retains moisture, acts as an anti-static agent, protects against irritants and assists in the repair of damaged skin. “The Dreamskin finish is base upon a polymer, which was originally developed for contact lenses, and is also used for artificial veins, arteries and cardiovascular medical devices such as stents,” the company stated.
“When applied to fabric, the DreamSkin polymer forms a hydro gel on the surface of the fibre. The hydro gel has high hygroscopicity (moisture retention), and provides protection against irritants caught in clothing fibres such as Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate (a known irritant commonly found in washing powders). It is a natural anti stat. due to the high moisture content, [making it] very important for stockings and tights, and the treated textile supports a self-healing ability, assisting in the repair of damaged skin. The DreamSkin polymer is [also] very durable against home laundering and as a side benefit also provides a soil-release property.”
