(Filed Under wholesale Men's Underwear News). Jockey is offering the athletic man more options with its Sport Performance platform, a new category for the company dedicated to performance wear.
Paula Barnes, vice president of men’s merchandising for the company, remarked: “The Jockey Sport Performance platform as a whole is geared to meet the expectations of an athletic man, someone who is aware of the functional qualities of performance apparel and who is willing to pay a bit of a premium for the products.”
Launching under the platform for 2010 is the Jockey Sport Performance Support line—which hit retailers including Kohl’s, Macy’s and JCPenney in January—and Jockey Sport Performance Stretch, hitting stores on September 25th. Both run in sizes M through XL.
Jockey Sport Performance Support consists of six total styles including a low-rise brief, trunk, boxer brief, and midway, as well as a T-shirt and muscle tee. Retail prices for bottoms run at $19.50 per two items, while tops retail for $19.50 per item.
Barnes described the collection as featuring “a contoured, horizontal fly in a moisture-wicking polyester/spandex blend”. It features the platform’s signature green color on the waistband. Garment colors offered include black, white, emerald green, Shanghai red, steel gray and others.”
According to Barnes, Jockey Sport Performance Stretch will “complement Sport Performance Support, and serve as the second tier of performance products to our athletic consumer.” The collection’s three styles—consisting of a trunk, boxer brief and muscle tee—are constructed from a Tactel/Nylon blend, which she described as “a lightweight fabrication offering excellent support with superior stretch that dries three times faster than cotton, and is more resilient than a typical nylon/cotton blend.” Styles also feature a wide waistband with the platform’s signature tab logo and a no-fly contoured pouch.
Barnes reported that Jockey is gearing both collections toward all tiers of distribution.
