(Filed Under wholesale Men's Underwear News). Despite Lee Alexander McQueen’s shocking death on February 11, 2010, the Alexander McQueen label is continuing his legacy. Alexander McQueen is launching its first men’s underwear collection for Autumn/Winter 2010, which the British designer was working on before his death. The collection is being produced and distributed under a license from Albisetti, an Italian intimate apparel company. It will available starting in June at a retail price range of £35 for a basic boxer to £370 for a silk jacquard pajama set, equivalent to approximately $54 to $569 at the current exchange rate.
“We are very enthusiastic about this launch: the development of our menswear is a priority for us and expanding the diversity of products within the sector is mandatory,” Jonathan Akeroyd, chief executive officer of Alexander McQueen, said. “The underwear line places the brand in a new product and price category whilst maintaining our aesthetic, creativity and quality. Our collaboration with Albisetti is a long-term project […] We will immediately offer a swimwear variation for summer 2011 and further expansion is yet to come.”
Included are four ranges consisting of Basic, Fashion, Sleepwear and Loungewear. Basic includes boxers, briefs and vests in white, black, grey and navy, with skull print and plain color options, and a variety of narrow and wide waistbands. The company plans to continue it through future seasons. Fashion, which will be updated seasonally, is based on iconic McQueen prints. The range’s debut collection features the feather, x-ray, degrade and new bones prints.
Sleepwear encompasses luxury pajamas and boxers available in cotton, silk and cotton with a blue feather print, and silk jacquard with a skull print. Loungewear, inspired by military wear, includes long johns and classic Henley tops made from lighweight jersey, and hooded asymmetrical cardigans and track pants made from fleece.
The launch collection will also include a limited edition red basic boxer with a skull shaped ribbon and skull waistband. A percentage of profits from these boxers will go to AIDS charities worldwide.
Alexander McQueen is part of Gucci Group N.V., owned by PPR. For further information, contact the company’s U.S. offices by calling (212) 590-5100.
