(Filed Under Fashion News). A new durable fiber has been developed by Tokyo-based textile manufacturer Opelontex Co.: “LYCRA®fiber T-909B."

The new fiber is reportedly ideal for use in manufacturing swimwear due to its ability to remain unaffected by pool chlorine as well an original yarn feature that allows the material to stretch softly, but shrink quickly.

According to Japanese textile company Toray, the new material is being made with Invista, the trademark holder of Lycra, and is jointly operated with DuPont, a company specializing in sustainable material solutions.
