(Filed Under Fashion News). “Material Girl” may be the name of Madonna’s 1985 hit, but L.A. Triumph says she has no right to use it for her new clothing line.
According to Reuters, L.A. Triumph, a California-based clothing company, filed a lawsuit against Madonna for using the “Material Girl” name for the junior line she and her daughter Lourdes designed for Macy’s, which launched at stores this summer. L.A. Triumph said that it has been selling similar clothes under its Material Brand since 1997, and requested that the judge rule that Madonna’s use of the phrase creates deceit on the marketplace.
