(Filed Under wholesale Shapewear News). Co’Coon is following up on the introduction of its first plus-size products in 2010 with new looks targeting this market.

The Colombian shapewear company, which has a U.S. presence through its offices in Doral, Fla., has introduced the Short Wonder Shaper, the Marine Algae Braless T-Shirt, the Thermal Hip Hugger Plus and the Thermal Zipper Panty Plus. With these latest products, Co’Coon produces 13 styles in sizes 2X through 5X retailing from $55 to $160.

Raul Esteve, national sales manager of Co’Coon’s U.S. branch, said the Short Wonder Shaper is designed to reduce the wearer’s waist by up to two sizes while correcting her posture and lifting her breasts and bottom. The Marine Algae Braless T-shirt is part of the company’s Skin Care line, and is designed to nourish and hydrate the wearer’s skin while lifting her breast and shaping her back, waist and abdomen.

The company added the Thermal Hip Hugger Plus and the Thermal Zipper Girdle Panty Plus to its Powertech line. Esteve said the Hip Hugger features a “web shape” fabric constructed with fibers that provide high resistance and elongation, helping to eliminate localized fat in the abdomen, waist and hips. The Zipper Girdle Panty is designed to reduce the wearer’s waist and hips by up to two sizes.

According to Esteve, entering the plus size market is essential to Co’Coon’s expansion in the United States. “At Co’Coon we are totally dedicated to the woman, with emphasis in three areas: Well-being, beauty and corporal control,” he said. “One of the reasons women buy shapewear is for support and appearance improvement; thus the self-confidence, emotional balance and the way we relate to others is only possible when we feel and see ourselves well. Being that the statistics reveal that 64 percent of the women in the United States are size 14 or more we needed to bring to same advantages and benefits that product lines offer to this sector of American women.”

He reported that the company plans to continually add to its plus size assortment, with the goal of offering plus size styles in every one of its lines.

Co’Coon products are sold in 40 stores nationwide including Petticoat Fair in Austin, Tex., Hourglass Angel in Chicago, Ill. and Amazonia Brazil in Newark, N.J., as well as 80 POS (point of sale) stations within malls. Globally, the brand is available in 450 independent boutiques and 32 company-owned stores in 23 countries, including Canada; Mexico; Colombia; Venezuela; Bolivia; Spain; Japan; and South Africa, among others.
