(Filed Under Financial and General Interest News). Dollar General Corp. has kicked off the new year with plans to create jobs and enter new states.

The discount retailer of general merchandise, including basic undergarments by Hanes, announced Monday that it plans to open 625 stores during fiscal 2011, including its first locations in Connecticut, Nevada and New Hampshire. According to the company, with this growth it will create 6,000 new jobs.

“Bringing our store model of convenience and value to more people in more states is an exciting opportunity for us,” said Rick Dreiling, chairman and C.E.O of Dollar General. “We believe the new communities and states we are entering will benefit from the new jobs, shopping choices and dedication to community found at Dollar General.”

Dollar General also plans to remodel or relocate 550 stores. The company currently operates more than 9,200 stores in 35 states.
