(Filed Under Financial and General Interest News). Athleta, a women’s activewear brand acquired by Gap Inc. in 2008, has opened its first store in San Francisco at 2226 Fillmore St.
The 5,000-square-foot San Francisco store is Athleta’s second brick and mortar location. The company opened a smaller store in Mill Valley, Calif. last May. Previously, the 12-year-old label was sold exclusively online and via its catalog.
And the San Francisco opening is just the beginning of Gap’s retail plans for the brand. “This store opening launches the next phase of our multi-channel growth plan for the Athleta brand,” said Toby Lenk, president of Gap Inc. Direct, the division in charge of Athleta. “What began as a catalog business 12 years ago, evolved into a successful online channel, and today marks another milestone for the Athleta brand.”
