(Filed Under wholesale Plus Size News). Lane Bryant’s “red bra” commercial, which the company accused FOX and ABC of discriminating against in 2009 because it featured a plus-size model, won this year’s AME Platinum award.
Zimmerman Advertising created the commercial, in which model Ashley Graham is clad in various lingerie outfits, for Lane Bryant’s Cacique division of intimate apparel. In spring 2009, Lane Bryant claimed that ABC and FOX restricted the commercial’s airtime while allowing sexy Victoria’s Secret ads to run freely. Fueled by this controversy, the commercial became a YouTube sensation, rising to the slot of most watched viral video worldwide on April 29, according to Advertising Age. Both FOX and ABC denied any discrimination.
The AME Awards recognize creative and successful marketing strategies. The commercial is still available on YouTube under the heading “Lane Bryant Ad: Not What Mom Would Wear.” View it here.
