(Filed Under Financial and General Interest News). Charming Shoppes Inc. has appointed Anthony Romano president, C.E.O and a member of the company’s board of directors, and Brian Woolf group president of Lane Bryant.
Charming Shoppes appointed Romano C.O.O and acting C.E.O upon James Fogarty’s resignation last October. The company hired Romano in February 2009 as executive vice president of global sourcing and business transformation; he previously worked for Charming Shoppes for eight years before joining Ann Taylor Inc. in 1997.
Michael Goldstein, chairman of Charming Shoppes board of directors, described Romano as the ideal choice for this position. “Over the last several months, we have conducted a broad C.E.O candidate search, including both external and internal candidates,” he said. “Tony’s extensive experience managing and working in the many facets of apparel retail operations, and especially his knowledge and familiarity with Charming Shoppes in its current business turnaround mode were key considerations in his appointment.”
Woolf has served as president of Charming Shoppes’ Lane Bryant and Cacique brands since 2008. Previously, he was chairman and C.E.O of Cache Inc. for eight years, and has also worked for Macy’s, Limited Stores and Lazarus. In his expanded position of group president, he will report to Romano, and Marla Anderson, president of the company’s Lane Bryant Outlet division, will report to him.
As of January 29, Charming Shoppes Inc. operated 2,064 stores in 48 states under the Lane Bryant, Cacique, Lane Bryant Outlet, Fashion Bug, Fashion Bug Plus and Catherines Plus Sizes names.
