(Filed Under Financial and General Interest News). Kohl’s Department Stores plans to open a 602,000-square-foot distribution center in Edgewood, Md. to support its growing e-commerce operations.
The discount chain announced Tuesday that it has purchased a building, located at 1701 Trimble Rd. in Edgewood, and expects to open it for distribution this July. The company will begin hiring both hourly and management positions in March, and expects to hire 200 full-time and part-time workers for July. When fully operational, the company expects to employ about 1,200 people at this location. It plans to expand the facility to 1 million-square-feet by 2012.
Upon the Edgewood facility’s opening, Kohl’s will operate 12 distribution centers nationwide. This will mark its third e-commerce center. Last year, the company reported e-commerce revenue growth of over 50 percent, and expects to achieve $1 billion in e-commerce sales during 2011.
Kohl’s also plans to open 40 stores and complete 100 remodels by the end of this year. The company currently operates 1,097 stores in 49 states.
