Wacoal Intros Plus, Sport Styles And New Brand

(Filed Under wholesale Activewear News). Wacoal, known for decades for its focus on fit, targets several new customers with its spring collection, which introduces its first sports bras, a wider, more stylish assortment of plus offerings and a panty program for younger shoppers.

The soft-cup sports bra, to ship Feb. 20, looks a lot like a typical sports bra but maintains Wacoal's focus on fit with a clasped back, the company said. More innovative is the plus-sized sports bra, which is made with the underwire on the outside, which gives support but creates a smooth interior for comfort against the chest. The plus-sized sports bra ranges from 34C to 40DDD and also features a clasped back. Colors for both are nude, black and white.

Also new for plus sizes is Romantic Encounters, a stylish, full-coverage underwire with lace insets and a coordinating boyleg; the set is available in black, nude or wisteria. The popular Romantic Notion lace set is available in a new blue hue.

But the brand's greatest stride in fashion-forward plus styles is the first-ever plus offerings under the Wacoal Luxe collection, a higher-end, more pricey offshoot that launched for average sizes last fall. Fitting sizes up to 40DD is a delicate sheer underwire with lace overlay in pink, white and nude with discretely reinforced straps for support.

Most different for Wacoal is b.tempt'd, a more youthful, fun line aimed at 18- to 30-year-olds revealed this spring that will launch in January, just after Wacoal's DKNY license expires. The line is arguably younger than DNKY, however, with brighter colors, playful embellishments like tulle, lace and bows and a more youth-friendly price point (Bras are about $20 less expensive than the Wacoal line).

B.tempt'd offers five groups of bras and coordinating bottoms, called Pretty Please, The Flirt, Sheer Brilliance, Pretty and Witty and Demi Desire. It also offers a three-for-$30 panty program, where shoppers can chose from styles from five different group of thongs and panties: Itsy Bitsy, sheer styles with playful ruffles; Teensy Weensy, which is decked in polka dots, ruffles and bows; Lace Yourself, which is more sophisticated, lace-covered styles; and basics groups Captivating Cotton and Smarty Pants.

B.tempt'd will be available at Belk, Bon-Ton, Dillard's, Macy's, Lord & Taylor, Von Maur and select Bloomingdale's, as well as some on-line retailers, Wacoal said.
