Ward had previously opened over 200 specialty boutique accounts for Sassybax as the director of sales for GeNe Sales Agency, where she worked from 1985 to 2007. In 2007, Ward opened moxiefashions, a contemporary showroom in Dallas, with Kimberly Burd. Ward was offered the Sassybax position in April 2011.

"We are delighted to have Krista at Sassybax. She was always part of our long-term plan," stated company president Amanda Kennedy. "Krista brings fresh enthusiasm to Sassybax, which is infectious."
