(Filed Under Financial and General Interest News). Off-price retailer Syms Corp., which operates Syms and Filene’s Basement stores, reported a second-quarter loss of $11.5 million, or 80 cents a share, up from $10.9 million, or 76 cents a share, in the second quarter of 2010.
Sales dropped 15.4 percent to $86.3 million from $102.1 million in last year’s period. Comparable store sales went down 13 percent.
In the six-month outlook, the loss came to $10.1 million, or 70 cents a share, from $11.7 million, or 81 cents a share, in the first half of 2010. Sales fell 14.2 percent, from $223.5 million to a modest $191.7 million.
Syms Corp. currently operates 47 Syms and Filene’s Basement off-price retail locations.
