RadiciSpandex to Close U.S. Plant

(Filed Under Textiles News). Alabama state officials report that RadiciSpandex Corp. will close the company’s Tuscaloosa, Ala. plant in December.

RadiciSpandex, the U.S. subsidiary of Italian global fibers conglomerate RadiciGroup, manufactures elastic fibers and yarns for activewear, swimwear and intimate apparel as well as home textiles and industrial markets at the Tuscaloosa factory. RadiciSpandex is based in Gastonia, N.C., where the products are finished and distributed.

Sixty days’ warning notice has been given to the plant employees, while employees at the Gastonia headquarters have been advised of the likelihood of layoffs. RadiciSpandex will work with employees, suppliers and customers to facilitate a smooth transition. Factory layoffs will begin Dec. 14, affecting approximately 89 employees.

RadiciSpandex purchased the factory and other company facilities in Tuscaloosa, Gastonia and Fall River, Mass. from Globe Manufacturing in 2001 for $52.2 million. The company’s U.S. production capacity is approximately 6,000 tons per year.
