(Filed Under wholesale Basics News). Los Angeles-based retailer American Apparel has opened in Lille, France.
The in-store location at the Galeries Lafayette department store offers 322 square feet of the company’s bestselling basics as well as new items and current winter trends, including peacoats, capes and sweaters. Approximately 20 new employees will be hired for the store.
"France has always been one of our strongest markets, and we’re excited for the opportunity to serve a new customer base in Lille," stated Marsha Brady, creative director for American Apparel. The brand opened its first store in France in 2005 and currently operates 12 locations in the country.
The company also announced changes in its board and executive ranks. William Mauer, a senior partner at Quebec-based law firm Lapin Mauer, had joined the board of directors and audit committee, bringing the company back into compliance with the New York Stock Exchange requirement that companies have at least three board members on their audit committees. Additionally, American Apparel’s acting president Tom Casey resigned two months before the expiration of his 15-month contract signed in October 2010.
