(Filed Under Textiles News). Lenzing AG and German company smartfiber AG are expanding their existing partnership as Lenzing will exclusively produce smartfiber’s smartcell and SeaCell specialty fibers at its headquarters in Lenzing, Austria.
SeaCell and smartcell — lyocell specialty fibers — were developed at Lenzing’s Upper Austria site after the company granted smartfiber a license for the pilot production of specialty textiles in 2007. The fibers incorporate antibacterial, natural substances found in zinc and seaweed which promote better skin and overall hygiene.
The production will be moved to enable a better cost structure and to better accommodate the smartfiber plant’s continually increasing order volume. smartfiber will continue to be responsible for the sale and marketing of the specialty fibers.
smartfiber’s headquarters are located in Rudolstat, Germany. Lenzing AG is part of The Lenzing Group, which has U.S. offices in Mobile, Ala. and New York City.
