(Filed Under wholesale Lingerie News). (MAGIC Report) UnSpoken, a high-end loungewear, sleepwear and lingerie collection that reminds one of the black and white photos of movie stars in the 1930’s by George Hurrell, was launched at MAGIC (February 13-15)
Caron Block, chairman of the board and one of the creative directors, told BODY, “The whole thing started because I have been married for 29 years,” and was searching for “things that were pretty and sexy that might get my husband to turn his head.” After she discovered the market was full of “baby dolls for pretty little things, but nothing in the higher price points for women of a certain age,” she decided to start the company.
“34 to 55 is our demographic,” she continued. “Women with curves…This is a demographic with a lot of money…Women who have money to spend, who want high quality.” Block emphasized that “All garments are designed to be comfortable,” and are made with “high end silks and laces.” Other materials include eyelash lace, stretch lace, modal, stretch satin, cotton voile and power net.
Wholesale price points for the line range from $18 for a silk and lace panty (suggested retail price $39) on up to a “silk pantsuit with lace detail with a built in bodysuit” with a wholesale price of $339 and a suggested retail price of $749. The collection now contains about a dozen styles, including silk, lace-trimmed gowns, body suits, shorts, sleep pants, robes, bras and panties that come in ivory, black, pink and silver.
Several of the elegant and striking garments are “crossovers that can be worn out. This is another of our strengths,” said Block.
UnSpoken is produced in China. There are no order minimums, and the collection is scheduled for delivery in stores this summer. As of the launch, UnSpoken had not yet delivered to any retailers, but Block said the target market is “higher end department stores and specialty boutiques.”
Block runs the company with her husband, both of whom are lawyers with no formal fashion background. She cited their previous business experience in real estate and as Fatburger franchisees. To guide the move into lingerie, Block has hired experienced consultants, one of whom is Linda LoRe, the former president of Frederick’s of Hollywood.
Other members of the team include creative director Lucy Oganessian and Jessica Farrow, who modeled garments during MAGIC, “the newest member of our design team.”
“Women gain confidence and sexiness,” as they age, said Block adding that UnSpoken is designed to “empower a confident, sexy woman to be more of both.”
