(Filed Under wholesale Lingerie News). Having launched Fräulein Annie in January 2011 (with a fall/winter 2011 collection) at the Paris lingerie show, owner and designer Frauke Nagel has now set her sights on the U.S. market with an appearance at the recent Curve show in New York. “The intention of the brand is to combine beautiful style with function and wearability,” she told BODY.

“Vintage inspired with modern shapes and fabrics,” is how German-born Nagel describes her brand (which is named after a Marlene Dietrich song ‘Fräulein Annie wohnt schon lang nicht hier’: ‘Fräulein Annie doesn’t live here any more.’ “It’s a bittersweet song about an unfulfilled love,” explains Nagel on her web site. She got her experience as a “design consultant, working with international brands and retailers. I have been in the business for 12 years.”

The collection includes lingerie, five swim styles (just introduced this summer) and some shapewear (It looks “glamorous. It does not look like Spanx.”). “There is a large variety in panties, and every collection has garters,” on several pieces. “There is a big following in the UK, The Netherlands and Australia for garters.” Nagel explained that she is “Not catering to just one shape [but rather] lots of different styles for different shapes,” sizes and markets. She is “always increasing the number of SKU’s.”

According to Nagel, “The brand hangs next to Chantal Thomas, La Perla and Huit” among others.

Bras in the collection retail for $85 to $92, wholesale from $36.90 to $40. Panties retail from $55, wholesale from 23.90 (All prices are landed, duty paid). Sizes ranges from “A through G for each collection” and dress sizes 8 to 18 (US 3/XS to 8/XXL). Among the pieces we liked was a shapewear bottom in deep purple and grey ($89 retail, $38.70 wholesale) with matching bra ($85 retail, 36.90 wholesale).

Fräulein Annie is sold in specialty lingerie stores in the U.S. such as Brooklyn Fox, Kaori’s Closet in Manhattan, Alla Prima in San Francisco and Flirt Boutique in St. Paul, MN. In Europe the collection is sold in France, Belgium, Germany, Austria among other nations. Online it is available at Figleaves.com among other etailers.

On her web site, Nagel explains she “has been busy working with one of the best manufacturers of exquisite lingerie in the world over the past seven years. It is here, with their technical capabilities, that Fräulein Annie is being produced,” she notes, adding the brand “summarizes all things Frauke feels passionate about; beautiful quality with a perfect fit, in the style of early 20th century Berlin.” She also notes the line is “Beautifully feminine with a romantic, melancholic view on a bygone era. Think the avant-garde style of the 20s to 40s mixed with quirky 50s and 60s, think Cabaret.”

A final comment: “My muses are film stars of these decades like Marlene Dietrich, Romi Schneider and Marilyn Monroe. Inspired by classic German and American cinema I grew up with (my mother is a movie enthusiast) and, as a child, I loved us being together and watching her favorite films.”
