(Filed Under wholesale Hosiery News). “Fun, funky designs, in a high quality sock, with great customer service,” is the way Carrie Atkinson, the founder of Sock It To Me, describes her eight-year-old hosiery firm. She told BODY she is selling to almost one thousand specialty stores, offering “200 sku’s” in men’s, women’s and kids’ styles which wholesale for $4 to $6.50.
In a recent interview, Atkinson declared the Portland-based firm is now looking to expand to department stores and has been adding more conservative, basic, over the knee styles to the collection.
According to Atkinson, “anything with a moustache” is selling well right now. Sock It To Me offers two women’s styles, three men’s styles and one “baby pack,” all featuring moustaches. Also popular is a style featuring a large black cat, one with a giraffe and another with a koi fish. “The Chat Noir was one of our first. We put it out there and it kept selling.”
An interesting marketing tool the firm has been using is its “design a sock contest,” the owner explained. “Facebook fans pick the winners. We always” produce the first place winner of the contest she said, and sock designs numbering “at least 20 per contest” are generated. “Fans get involved. They have a say as to what gets made. And we get designs we never would have thought of.”
Some of the wide range of stores that currently carry Sock It To Me include the Los Angeles Sock Market, Sweet! Hollywood, Newbury Comics and Yellow Rat Bastard in New York.
