Native To Ship Three McClintock Collections

Native Group Ltd. will ship three separate Jessica McClintock collections for Fall/Holiday 2013: intimates, “Shapewear Solutions” and a focused group of foundations bearing the label “Under My Dress” designed to be worn under those special occasion dresses for which the licensor is best known.

“In the intimates collection juniors and all women young at heart are the targeted consumers,” Adrian Pepper, director of license product development, wrote in an e-mail message. “With Jessica McClintock Under My Dress we are targeting young women who are looking for workable foundations to wear under special occasion dresses. From prom, bridesmaids to wedding dresses.” BODY reported the signing of the license deal the first week of January and first samples were shown to buyers in February. Photographs of the line began to be published in BODY’s editorial section in April.

A variety of silhouettes are offered under the Jessica McClintock label including, “matching bras, panties and baby dolls,” Pepper declared. “Shapewear Solutions offers a full, comprehensive line of seamless shapewear like shape briefs, shape shorts and slips. Jessica McClintock Under My Dress is a collection of four solution pieces including [the] Longline Bust Booster!, Bust Booster!, Goodbye Awkwardness! and Goodbye Muffin Top!” she added. These pieces are “A longline convertible bra with a plunge front and deep v back, a convertible balconette bra, a shape boyshort, and a high waist thong, respectively. The average price point for bras is $36 while panties average $12 and babydolls [retail] from $40 to $48. Shapewear pieces retail from $30 to $48.”

Serap Insar Ikiz is the creative director for the Jessica McClintock intimates.

“This collection is inspired by the spirit of romance in everyday life,” Pepper explained. “We combine laces and fabrications with sparkly details to appeal to the young romantic inside every woman. I am most excited about our Jessica McClintock Under My Dress collection,” she continued. “We are aiming to fill a void in the marketplace for fashionable solution pieces that appeal to a young woman attending her first formal event.” The four styles in the collection fill “a void left wide open by the competition. Many try to advertise nude shapewear body suits to juniors but they do not take into account that today’s special occasion dresses are predominately strapless. Jessica McClintock Under My Dress will become the first choice to wear to a formal, the pieces are sparkly, fresh and put the “fun” in functional.”

Pepper sees the Jessica McClintock collection hanging in stores with “Oh la la Cheri, JT Intimates, Marilyn Monroe Intimates.”

During the past decade, Native, a New York-based firm, has occasionally used such licensed labels as Chinese Laundry, Adolfo and Astrostyle. More recently the company has focused on private label production. Starting in 1969, designer Jessica McClintock has built a substantial San Francisco-based apparel firm, originally focusing on the junior market, including prom and wedding dresses. Over the years McClintock has moved into a wide range of products, several through licensing arrangements, including furniture, lighting, bedding, eye wear, children’s apparel, fragrances and handbags.

Overall, there would seem to be a multitude of potential outlets for Jessica McClintock intimates. Products bearing the designer’s name are sold in a variety of stores throughout North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. In addition, the firm operates 41 company-owned stores, about half of them located in the U.S. Department stores such as Nordstrom and Dillards offer McClintock dresses, while Macy’s sells both McClintock perfume and handbags and Target the perfumes. Retail prices for Jessica McClintock dresses are moderate: on its web site they range from $45 for a cocktail dress to $299 for a bridal dress.
