(Filed Under Fashion News). In a promising twist to the constant news of declining sales, Washington-based retail chain, Peekay Inc., reported “phenomenal record breaking sales” over Valentine’s Day weekend.

“Literally every vendor I brought in sold extremely well,” the company’s lingerie, apparel and shoe buyer, Rona Bonilla, said.

According to the company, with their 34 retail locations consisting of the 21 “Lovers” stores in Washington, and 13 “A Touch of Romance” and “ConRey” stores in southern California, Valentine’s weekend sales exceeded their 2008 sales.

“I did not do anything remarkably different this year: it was your standard valentine’s lingerie and nothing too over-the-top was done to our assortment,” Bonilla commented.

“I think sales were up because we had the right mix of merchandise, our vendors shipped on time, and the customers and consumers did not hesitate to spend some extra cash. Valentine’s day is one of those holidays that there is just no price tag on-people are willing to spend to have a good time with their loved ones.”

In other news, Peekay Inc. has announced that they collected a total of 15,149 pounds of non-perishable food during their December 2008 “Holiday Food Drive,” resulting in about 11,653 meals for hungry Washington and California residents. Also on the advocacy front, for National Condom Week from February 14th to 21st, their “Lovers” division donated five cents of every condom they sold to the Northwest division of Planned Parenthood. The company stated: “Education and Information is always a top priority for us to make available for our customers.”
