(Filed Under Fashion News). “One Person, One Company, One College Make A Difference,” an annual benefit gala held by the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and FIT’s Educational Foundation for the Fashion Industries, will honor retail industry leader Steve Sadove, chairman and chief executive officer of Saks Fifth Avenue.

“Steve Sadove has long been a great advocate of education and a valued friend of FIT,” said Joyce Brown, president of FIT. “We are fortunate to have an industry leader such as Steve recognize that FIT’s students are tomorrow’s industry talent and that it is, therefore, prudent and wise to ensure that they receive a top-notch education in order to infuse the fashion business with ongoing intelligence, energy and inspiration.”

Sadove began his career at Saks in 1998 as a member of the company’s board of directors and by 2002, he had become the company’s vice chairman. In 2004 Sadove became the company’s COO soon after, he became the CEO in 2006.

“It is an honor to be recognized by FIT, whose resources and education are best in class for the talented individuals pursuing careers in fashion and retail,” said Sadove. “In the current environment, it is paramount that we continue to show support for those who stand to inherit our industry by affording them opportunity and the ability to cultivate their ideas and creativity.”

At this year’s gala, Sadove and Saks are offering 20 FIT students majoring in accessories design the chance to win a $2,500 stipend in addition to exposure in Saks’ designer shoe salon. The chosen students will have to embellish black pumps, donated by Saks, with Crystallized Swarovski Elements in a creative attempt to mimic traditional NY landmarks, such as the Empire State Buidling and the Brooklyn Bridge. The shoes will be put on display throughout the gala event and guests will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite landmark interpretations.

Tickets to the event, which will be held at March 19th at Cipriani 42nd Street starting at 6:30 p.m., begin at $750 for individuals and $7,500 for tables. For further information on tickets, contact the FIT Educational Foundation for Fashion Industries at (212) 217-4100 or email Victoria Guranowski at victoria_guranowski@fitnyc.edu.
