Victoria’s Secret Parent: Sales Up In December


(Filed Under Financial and General Interest News). L Brands, Inc., parent to Victoria’s Secret and La Senza among other stores and brands, reported sales increases for both December and the 48 weeks ended January 4th, 2014, while at the same time lowering its estimated earnings moderately for the fourth quarter due to lower margins and increase promotions.

The firm, which also owns Bath & Body Works, “reported net sales of $2.098 billion for the five weeks ended Jan. 4, 2014, compared to net sales of $1.947 billion for the five weeks ended Dec. 29, 2012. The company reported a comparable store sales increase of 2 percent for the five weeks ended Jan. 4, 2014, compared to the five weeks ended Jan. 5, 2013.”

In addition, L Brands “reported net sales of $10.042 billion for the 48 weeks ended Jan. 4, 2014, an increase of 6 percent compared to net sales of $9.472 billion for the 48 weeks ended Dec. 29, 2012. The company reported a comparable store sales increase of 2 percent for the 48 weeks ended Jan. 4, 2014, compared to the 48 weeks ended Jan. 5, 2013.”

In revising its profit projections downward, the firm said it “now expects fourth quarter earnings per share of approximately $1.60, compared to its previous forecast of $1.67 to $1.82. The decrease versus its previous forecast is primarily the result of lower than forecasted merchandise margins due to incremental promotional activity.”
