(Filed Under wholesale Lingerie News). Bravo Universal demonstrated its interest in the U.S. market by bringing to the recent Curve show in New York an adhesive bra with a distinctive angel’s wings shape that has won patents in this and several other countries.
“Victoria’s Secret is my dream,” said owner Kimberly Chang who launched Bravo about eight years ago in Taiwan, explaining that she has already placed the bra in sister company La Senza in Canada. Chang told BODY the secret to the bra is the cupped shape and feathered outside edges “like fingers to hold the breast.” With three feather-like extensions on each side, the bra has the rough shape of detached angel’s wings and is called by the company the “Body Angel: One Piece Wing Bra.”
The current version of the Body Angel is made of cloth and has a “medical grade adhesive” on the inside to hold the breasts. A silicone version of the bra is also in the works, according to Chang. The Body Angel comes in sizes A to D and a suggested retail price of $30 to $32 and a wholesale price of $10 to $12.
At Curve Bravo displayed a large poster listing its patent numbers for the U.S., Taiwan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Australia, Canada and patent pending status in Japan. The display of patents was no doubt intended to reassure retailers about the legal status of the new bra in a category that has been vigorously contested by several producers. Indeed, BODY was with a representative of Nubra, another producer of patented adhesive bras, when he passed by the Bravo booth and declared he had no issues with the Body Angel bra.
Chang, who said she previously worked for a satellite company, said she has four additional bras (one is the silicone version), each with its own patent, coming soon. Delivery for the Body Angel bra is expected to begin here in April.
With Chang at the Curve booth was Cecilia Navarro who is helping with sales in the U.S.
