(Filed Under wholesale Lingerie News). The intimate apparel licensee for Donna Karan intimates is still Maidenform, which is now part of HanesBrands, confirmed Cathy Volker, EVP licensing at Donna Karan International Inc.
Some in the industry had questioned whether the license would continue with Maidenform after it was acquired last year. And further questions were raised by the fact that Hanesbrands, on its corporate website, does not list either Donna Karan or DKNY as one of its brands, even though other, less prominent brands, are listed. For example, under the “Our Company” heading on the first page of the corporate site, http://www.hanes.com/corporate, the company states, “HanesBrands is a ... manufacturer and marketer of leading everyday basic apparel under some of the world’s strongest apparel brands. Our innerwear and activewear apparel brands include Hanes, Champion, Playtex, Bali, Maidenform, Flexees, JMS/Just My Size, barely there, Wonderbra and Gear for Sports. In addition, our international brands include Zorba, Sol y Oro, Rinbros, Track N Field and Ritmo.”
The Donna Karan and DKNY brands do not appear.
The last time the Donna Karan brands were mentioned in a Hanes press release was back on October 7, 2013 when the company announced the completion of its acquisition of Maidenform Brands.
According to Volker, however, the licensing deal for intimates never left Maidenform. And she also confirmed that the license for sleepwear also continues with Komar. On the Komar website, both the Donna Karan and DKNY brands continue to be prominently displayed.
Volker also pointed out that Hanes itself has had the Donna Karan hosiery license for “30 years” and continues with it.
