Several retailers place orders at the show, responding to the company’s high quality samples, moderate prices, extremely low minimum order quantities (MOQ), as well as recommendations from stores that have already placed and received test orders.

One of the most popular categories for Aakar are robes, which come in a variety of styles (kimono, free size and regular sleeve), fabrics and prices. “We provide from hand embroidered robes to sheer sexy robes,” explained Aayuushi Agarwal, the founder and designer, who attended the recent show. Wholesale prices can range from $80 to $500. The robes can be “handcrafted, hand embroidered with high quality of fabrics (such as premium satins and silks) with French and hand finishes whereas classic robes or lower price ranges are basic robes with lace details in normal over lock finishes.” She added, “Sand wash satin, satin crepe Lycra, platinoire crepe, silk satin, sumo satin are a few options you can select from.”

A wide variety of colors and prints are available and “we even produce prints as per our client’s requirement.” The company continuously develops “various styles of robes for every season.” Sizes can range from S to 6XL, with lengths ranging from short to floor length.

Aakar’s low minimums are a perfect fit for specialty stores. “Our MOQ’s can be as low as 10 to 25 pieces per article, per color inclusive of four choices of size,” the designer noted. “Lead time varies from 60 to 90 days depending on the article and quantity selected.”

One U.S. retailer who is a strong supporter of the brand is Edna Turner-DeGeneste of Unique Lingerie, in Ocala Florida. “As a small business retailer in lingerie, bras and mastectomy fittings, I wanted to do a private label. After researching the industry, it was just too expensive,” she said of her initial research. “We, as retailers, find ourselves competing against our own brands. Many of my suppliers are selling direct to the consumer and discounting their products at the mass retailers.”

“When I finally found Aakar Intimates in India, although a bit skeptical, I decided to take them up on their offer of their great pricing and ten piece minimum order. I placed a small order for silk robes and upon receipt I was really pleasantly surprised at their quality, based on the price points. This order was completed faster than I expected, and delivered exactly as promised. I even added black with red lace. We have been slowly expanding our Unique Lingerie line of intimates this year making my store more unique every month.”
