(Filed Under wholesale Lingerie News). “We are all severely challenged by the coronavirus pandemic. Everyone in the lingerie and swim business, just like the rest of America,” declared Nicolas Attard, the owner of Oh La La Cheri.
“At our company we were all set to try and top last year, which was a great, record-breaking year for us. Then this thing hit.”
While some of their stores have pushed back orders, and online sales have slowed, one thing that sets this company apart is Attard’s genuine optimism about the post-crisis landscape.
“I believe when we come through the pandemic, and we all will, there will be pent up demand from consumers and stores for product. So we are being very aggressive. While many companies have canceled orders with their factories, we have not. We are going to be ready with product to meet the demand.”
Part of the optimism at Oh La La Cheri comes from the company’s record of steady, profitable growth in almost every year since its founding in the early 2000’s. And also the fact that in recent years the brand has been accepted into a growing number of larger, mainstream stores.
Added to that, Attard has been able to find, for Oh La La Cheri, a place in the fashion environment that clicks with many younger women. “It feels, right now, that we are perfectly aligned with what’s happening in society,” he told BODY not long ago. “Our average consumer identifies herself to some of the pop culture icons such as Kim Khardasian. We have been established and are still growing in this market of fashion oriented consumer. They respond to that “look” and want to be bold making a statement. They are the trendy young women.”
“These young women, as I have said many times before, are confident and consider lingerie as part of their wardrobe and cross our lingerie in wearing it as outerwear. Women are much more free with their bodies and their way of thinking. And when they shop for lingerie they want it to be statement lingerie. A statement piece.”
Many of the larger retailers want that customer, and they have come to Oh La La Cheri to bring her into their stores.
“What is happening now with the coronavirus is tragic and it is devastating. Nothing can diminish that. And it is on top over everyone’s mind right now. But it is also important to recognize that this will be over at some point. And we also need to be thinking about the future.” —NM
