(Filed Under wholesale Lingerie News). Yet another Rigby & Peller store has permanently closed, this one at the King of Prussia mall in Pennsylvania. This reduces the chain to just six stores in the U.S.
In an article less than a month ago BODY reported that the chain’s location at Tysons Corner Center in McLean, Virginia, had also recently closed.
Belgium-based, parent company Van de Velde, which owns other retail chains in Europe, as well as the PrimaDonna, Marie Jo and Andres Sarda wholesale brands, recently revealed that during the first half of this year it suffered its worst retail performance in the U.S. Sales at the Rigby & Peller stores here fell by 63.8% when compared to the first six months in 2019.
The remaining Rigby & Peller shops are located in Oakbrook, Illinois, Boston, Atlanta and Chicago, along with two in Manhattan.
In the first half, Van de Velde reported sales in its other company owned shops “in Europe fell by 32.3%,” explaining that “stores in the Netherlands and Germany reopened in mid-May. Sales are recovering gradually. Local community stores are performing markedly better than those in shopping centers and busy shopping streets.”
Van de Velde claims on its website that it works “in close partnership with 3,600 independent lingerie boutiques worldwide” as well as selling through its “own retail network with retail brands Rigby & Peller and Lincherie. Our geographical center of gravity is Europe and North America.” — NM
