(Filed Under wholesale Lingerie News). Biota is a Colombia-based “ecofriendly” producer of a small collection of basics, scheduled to show at Curve in New York in August, its first ever trade show.
Noting that “the fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries,” owner Laura Villanueva emphasized, “we believe that we are on the way to a more sustainable, transparent, dignified, equitable, inclusive place that revalues the artisanal and the conservation of nature.”
Biota was launched in March 2019. "However, previous to that, we did an extensive research for about two years, on sustainable textiles and slow fashion processes, looking for partners that could source based on our requirements. We started with a small collection of ecobasics and now have a workshop in Colombia where our garments are manufactured.”
The initial offering “includes three tops, five panties and one bodysuit. This includes different styles such as a bralette, a crop top, thongs and briefs (high and low waisted. We move in the range of basic colors: black, gray and white. Our sizes for tops go from XS to XL and sizes for panties go from XS to XXL. We are very close to launching a new collection next week that is more “active” but still in the line of comfy basics.” Retail prices for the current collection range from $20 to $70 USD.
What’s the brand identity? “We believe we can FEEL GOOD without sacrificing our comfort. Feeling good implies looking good and feeling confident in our own skin, but also with the satisfaction of using an ecofriendly product and supporting a conscious brand that is giving back to the environment. Currently all of our garments are made with a sustainable textile made out of recycled cotton and recycled plastic bottles, using zero toxic chemicals and zero water in its process with a high quality of manufacturing. Our approach and brand communication is diverse and inclusive.”
To date the brand has only been sold on its own website. Villanueva said her “wholesale strategy is based on shops that offer good quality underwear for women across the world. We have been contacted by various boutiques but would love to sell through a department store too. We do want distributors that value the process and story behind our product and added value and that carry other similar brands.” Her contact info: Laura Villanueva, firstname.lastname@example.org, phone: +57 314718 6478.
“We have a very good workforce in Colombia, high quality materials and intricately designed patterns, which make our garments very unique. Our fabrics are ecofriendly and all of our process is very conscious through the complete supply chain. Our basics are very well accepted in the market due to their simplicity, comfort and sustainability. They are made to wear every day with a high re-purchase rate, therefore fast inventory rotation. We currently have a customer returning rate of 50%,” she concluded. — NM
