(Filed Under wholesale Basics News). Hanky Panky has expanded its organic cotton selection for the upcoming fall season.
According to Gale Epstein, Hanky Panky's president and creative director, retail prices run in line with their lace collection - $18 for thongs and $29 for panties - to encourage customers to purchase the eco-friendly line. It will hit stores this June or July.
In addition to the organic cotton boyshort and thong introduced in fall 2008, new styles include a camisole set and hipster. Hanky Panky has also expanded the organic line's color palette, with "gorgeous fall shades" including boysenberry, royal blue, ultra violet, dark gray, and the basic shades of black, white, chai and pink.
According to Epstein, Hanky Panky is no stranger to eco-friendly business practices. All of the brand's packaging is made from post-consumer material "using as little material as possible and giving them keepsake designs for a second life."
10 years ago, the company introduced an eco-friendly collection, which, according to Epstein, failed to take off due to price resistance. She believes that this time around the consumer response will be different.
"[10 years ago] the consumer was not ready for an organic collection," she explained. "But now there is a growing base, especially among the younger generations, of people who are more environmentally aware."
She added that Hanky Panky strives to be eco-friendly for more than just marketing purposes. In order to produce the organic collection, the company even dipped into its profit margins. They have also implemented environmentally responsible practices in the workplace, such as using the highest percentage post consumer recycled paper available, and encouraging employees to discard of their technotrash at a recycling facility on the premises.
Based in New York City, Hanky Panky is sold at a variety of department stores, online retailers and specialty boutiques including Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, BareNecessities.com and HerRoom.com.
