(Filed Under Financial and General Interest News). In the years since January 2019 when La Senza was acquired from the former L Brands by Beverly Hills-based private equity firm Regent LP, the business has returned to profitability according to a well-placed source who would not provide additional details.
But the Canada-based retailer has hardly altered the number of locations it reports on its website. Currently it lists 73 company-owned locations in Canada and one in the U.S. Another 202, which are apparently all franchise locations, are spread around the globe.
Shortly before it sold the chain, L Brands reported there were 118 La Senza shops in Canada, about a dozen in the U.S., as well as 186 franchise locations internationally. Regent closed many shops in Canada when it took over but opened some internationally. In July, 2020 BODY reported the company was claiming 74 stores in Canada, one store in the U.S. and 202 internationally.
As it announced the sale of La Senza in 2019, L Brands revealed it had been losing money on the chain. “The company estimates that La Senza’s 2018 revenues and operating loss will be approximately $250 million and $40 million (approximately $0.12 per share), respectively.”
