Splendies Celebrating Its 10th Anniversary

The company, which began as an online underwear subscription service in 2013, has blossomed into an important intimate apparel brand which now also offers sleepwear, and has recently launched an exclusive wholesale line selling to stores large and small across the country.

“That the move into wholesale coincides with our tenth anniversary, is quite appropriate,” explained founder Anthony Coombs. “Over the past decade we’ve accumulated a massive amount of direct data about what each of those individual customers wants. What works and what doesn’t. So, in effect, stores are now getting intimates that have been completely market tested, if you will. And that’s why the wholesale launch has been so successful.”

Coombs added that Splendies is now big enough to be a effective partner to retailers of any size. “After serving hundreds of thousands of customers and generating millions of dollars of annual business over the decade, we’re in a place to work effectively with stores. We can source at scale, replenish quickly, deliver on time, offer a state of the industry design staff, and deliver an ever changing line of exclusive styles to the stores. These are not attributes a start up can promise.”

A key element to the success of Splendies has been the close connection of the brand has with the plus size customer. And that customer is perhaps even more important in 2023. “When we started Splendies in 2013 we ONLY catered to the plus size audience,” explained Coombs. “Our mission was to provide an alternative way for the plus size woman to find fun, sexy, and cute underwear. That early support locked us in with the plus size consumer and they continue to shop us today because we’ve kept the commitment to provide great design and great product over the years. Today I think that we still have the most fun and cute undies for the plus size customer anywhere on the market.”

Splendies grew over the years to include intimates for a complete range of body sizes and types. Success with the broader audience of consumers came from additional factors. “Besides the uniqueness and difference of prints,” explained Coombs, “our quality has been key. For the price point I believe that we offer the BEST mix of quality and fit for the price. We spend countless time fitting the product before it reaches our customers. Some styles can take a year before we know that the fit is perfect. It’s important that our name is always synonymous with affordability and quality.”

As the company’s has expanded its retail footprint in North America, a heretofore hidden force has aided the effort. “Internally we call them the Splendies Army,” revealed Coombs. “We have hundreds of thousands of people across the country who have purchased Splendies over the years, many of whom are just fanatical about the brand. They can’t wait to get their package and see the next drop. But not everyone shops online. People still like to be able to feel the quality and touch the product in person. Now our fans know that they can now get Splendies in a store near them.”

Where will the Splendies be for the 20th anniversary? “The brand has tremendous potential for growth. If we continue to provide something very special for our consumers, we can expand into additional apparel categories, as well as many more physical stores,” concluded Coombs.
