While many intimate apparel companies have been citing quarterly decreases, Maidenform, Inc. has reported an increase in net sales of 16.4 percent to $114.2 million in the first quarter ended April 4th from $98.1 million in the prior year’s quarter.
Maidenform’s mix of products are sold worldwide and include bras, shapewear and panties. Bras accounted for 65 percent of total sales, while shapewear represented 29 percent and panties represented 6 percent.
In the company’s wholesale segment, net sales for department stores and national chain stores decreased by 8.9 percent to $44.1 million; mass merchant channel sales increased by 29.7 percent to $39.3 million; and net sales in other channels increased by 151.9 percent to $19.9 million.
