(Filed Under wholesale Lingerie News). October 2, Journelle kicked off its second emerging designer trunk show with a cocktail party in its store. The show featured the collections of Lola Haze, Dessous, Damaris and The Lake & Stars and ran through October 5.
"It's a great opportunity to bring together customers we know and love and people we haven't met yet," said Claire Chambers, owner of Journelle. "Bringing in the entire collections of young designers allows them to portray their lines the way they want them to be seen and helps them get more exposure."
Laura Mehlinger of Lola Haze was eager to partake in the show as it allowed her the opportunity to meet the women who wear her designs. "I love to meet the actual women wearing my line....how they wear it and what they are looking for," she said. Mehlinger was showing the versitility of her design through everyday appropriate mesh items to more refined silks.
Chambers also noted that the trunk show allowed customers the opportunity to shop these designer's collections from top to bottom, helping her better understand what worked well in the store.
Sophie Simmons of Dessous showcased items that were proven best sellers for her in the past. "I've brought back what's been working," she said of the 2x2 rib camisoles and bralettes with hand designed embroidery. "A lot of people have been asking for it."
The evening also included a screening of a short film for The Lake & Stars by Matt Sundin. The film was shot on New York City ballerinas and featured the company's fall '08 collection. At Journelle, the team of designers displayed easy to wear cotton blends with synthetic accents such as PVC bows and nail heads. "We design a fashion lingerie line and we want people to think of it as another layer of clothing that you wear," said designer Nikki Dekker.
