(Filed Under Financial and General Interest News). Chico’s FAS has announced first quarter results citing a slight increase in net sales to $410.6 million from $409.6 million in the prior year’s quarter.

Chico’s operates retail locations including Soma, which offers lingerie, basics, sleepwear, loungewear and activewear.

Net sales by Chico’s/Soma stores decreased to $272.5 million for the first quarter of 2009 (accounting for 66.4 percent of total net sales) from $285.7 million during the prior year’s quarter (accounting for 69.8 percent of total net sales).

In total, Chico’s operates 1,069 specialty stores, including locations in 48 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
