Kristian Giambi, owner/designer of new brand Brulee and wife of Oakland A's player Jason Giambi, hopes to fill an elegance niche on the market with her introductory line of daywear, lingerie and loungewear.
Set to debut at this August's CurveNY for the Spring 2010 season, the four-part collection includes the groupings Brulee Classic, Brulee Lounge, Brulee Boudoir and Brulee Black. Pieces include leggings, teddies, shorts, soft bras, thongs and nightshirts made from jersey, silk and chiffon. Sizes run from XS through XL and wholesale prices run from approximately $18 to $89 depending on the style. According to sales representative Olivia Feldman, the line is geared toward mid-to-upper tier boutiques and department stores.
Giambi reported that she was inspired to create the line because "there was just something missing on the market." Due to her jet-set lifestyle as the wife of a professional baseball player, she was looking for versatile, sexy styles that traveled well and were appropriate for both indoor and outdoor wear. She described the line as "feminine but not completely frilly. It's sexy but strong at the same time."
"I wasn't finding what I really loved out there," she added. "I wanted something that was well-designed with small details, beautiful fabric and a great construction."
Feldman agrees that Brulee is filling a need for clean elegance on the marketplace. "This is the new elegance and sophistication that's been missing," she remarked. "The American market is flooded with thongs and panties, but lacking in nice daywear." She believes that the line will appeal to women from their mid-20s to 50s.
Of particular note in the Classic grouping is the leggings, which Giambi said "are getting a lot of attention because you can wear them at home or out." Under Boudoir, the Teddy is "a special piece," along with the Silk Tap Pant, which boasts "a very flattering cut." Giambi added that throughout the line there are "small details in every piece," such as custom-made gold buttons and trimming.
