(Filed Under Fashion News). Controversy has once again surrounded American Apparel’s CEO Dov Charney since news leaked about him weeding out homely employees. After the company’s sales dropped, Charney reportedly ordered store managers to send him group shots of their staff for his perusal. According to reports, he is subsequently encouraging them to fire anyone who is does not meet the brand’s aesthetic; which can only mean those scantily-clad, doe-eyed girls seen on just about every American Apparel billboard.
In other news, American Apparel has recently opened a 2,800-square-foot store in Toronto, Can. following the opening of it's first Irish store in Dublin at 4,000-square-feet. The stores carry American Apparel’s fashion-basics including underwear and leggings. For the Toronto store, the company has hired approximately 30 employees, and for the Dublin store it has hired approximately 20 employees and continues to hold open-calls.
Los Angeles-based American Apparel currently operates approximately 270 stores in 20 countries.
