EDISON, N.J., Nov. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Internet lingerie retailer Bare Necessities has just sold the 5 millionth bra from its online store, .

Bare Necessities, which opened its online store in 1998, is now the second largest online specialty retailer for intimate apparel.  According to Internet Retailer’s Top 500 Guide to retail websites, only Victoria’s Secret has a larger online lingerie store than Bare Necessities.

In selling so many bras nationwide, to customers from all demographics and income levels, Bare Necessities offers a uniquely comprehensive perspective on the trends and styles that have influenced bra sales over the past 12 years.  The most common bra size? 36C.  Average bra size? 36DD.  The best selling bra? The Dream Tisha bra from Le Mystere, a bra that Oprah Winfrey once dubbed her favorite bra.

The company also has tracked many trends from 1998 through today, including the trend towards larger bra sizes.  More than 45% of the last million bras sold by Bare Necessities had cup sizes of DD or higher, and 43% had a back size of 38 or higher.

Bare Necessities is known for its comprehensive assortment of bras and lingerie, offering more than 3700 styles from 170 brands, in sizes from 30A to 56J.  For example, a search on for "42DD bras" yields 220 different bra styles.

Bare Necessities is celebrating its milestone by giving away five $1000 bra and lingerie wardrobes.  The contest is running concurrently on and, and features sample wardrobes compiled by a panel of stylists, bloggers and bra experts.
