Black Swimsuits Make A Comeback
Despite bright and neon printed swimwear being a big trend this summer, it is the simple black swimsuit which has remained our favourite, with black swimsuit sales having risen noticeably over the summer period. The colour of choice for many celebrities, little black swimsuits have been seen on stars such as Taylor Swift, Kelly Brook, Beyonce and Reese Witherspoon already this year.
Throughout June, July and August - sales of black swimsuits have increased by nearly 15% surpassing that of brighter and printed swimwear alternatives. Some of the most popular styles include deep v plunging suits – which are perfect for creating an eye catching cleavage and sweetheart styles which also create a flattering front. Swimwear fit specialist Suzanne Pentland said: “Black swimsuits provide more confidence. They are great illusion piece, and as celebrities such as Beyonce show - they nip you in at the waist and create a smooth and sleek silhouette. Black swimsuits are also a fantastic choice if you want to create longer looking legs.”
Nigel Addison, UK Sales Director from swimwear brands Freya and Fantasie comments, “Black swimsuits have definitely made a big comeback. Sales have risen around 15% and styles such as our black halter neck and tailored design suits have done really well. The key reason being - black swimsuits are versatile for every age and body shape, whether you are looking for a younger less covering design or something more supportive, the black one piece flatters all.
Figleaves women’s swimwear buyer Danielle Tyler adds: “We’ve seen a resurgence of the one piece for the last 3 seasons now and in particular a high increase in sales of black specifically. Helped by celebrity icons like Rihanna, cover up swimwear options have now become much trendier.”
Some key tips to ensure you look and feel good in a black one piece:
1.Get professionally fitted by a bra fitting expert. You wouldn’t wear a badly fitting bra so don’t wear an ill-fitting swimsuit!
2.Opt for a bra sized swimsuit rather than a dress size or one size fits all garment
3.If you are fuller busted wear an underwired swimsuit with concealed underwire to ensure great support and comfort
4.Pear shaped? Go for an adjustable leg swimsuit which can be lengthened or shortened for desired coverage.
5.Do you dare to bare like Millie Mackintosh and Kelly Brook? Black means you can get away with more so be confident and wear an eye catching style such as a deep plunging or v-neck swimsuit!
