In 1963 Agnes Saad packed up her life in Spring Valley, Illinois moved her family to Englewood, New Jersey to open a lingerie shop.

Her husband had recently passed away and Anges needed to support her growing children. Once relocated, she went to school to learn how to fit bras and quickly partnered with Adele Hadad to open the doors of what is still known as Adele and Agnes.

Adele remained a partner for two years before retiring to sunny Florida. When Agnes died in 1998, her daughters Pam Kahler and Barbara Saad took over the business. Completing the Adele and Agnes family is Patricia Phillips, who has been an empolyee of the store for 10 year.

"Our concept is quite simple," said Kahler. "We have a great selection, we know the merchandise and have a great knowledgeable staff."

Located at 56 East Palisade Avenue in Englewood, New Jersey, Adele and Agnes is a small 870 square-foot shop attracting customers from all parts of the Tri-State Area.

"Our top three lines are Le Mystere, Chantelle and Hanky Panky," said Kahler. With a customer base of professional and stay at home moms ranging in age from 35-65, Kahler finds that basic T-shirt bras are among their most requested items. "We have seen some changes regarding bra preferences. Most still prefer basic but now can have a touch of lace on the straps and the frame of the bra. Pretty and functional basic t-shirt bras are our number one best sellers."

In very low demand at Adele and Agnes are garter belts and stockings, fashion bustiers and teddies.

"Our Isotoner slippers are popular with our ladies who walk the dog and/or drive the kids to school," added Kahler.
Fit is one of the most important things to women when shopping for lingerie and Adele and Agnes have that covered.

"We are perfectionists when it comes to fit," she said. "With our varied and extensive size range and selection there is no need to send out for alterations. What sets us apart is our expertise and the everyday referrals from the leading department stores and gown boutiques in our area. We treat our customers like friends and they share that experience with others."
