Bekah Anderson: Located in one of the oldest homes in historic downtown Grayslake, The Fitting Room has a vintage charm all on its own. Antique furniture, fresh flowers, warm lighting, velvet curtains, and burning candles compliment the original hard wood floors, large windows and historic workmanship. Scattered throughout the shop, you’ll find everything from sexy lingerie and loungewear to basic bras, shape wear, and panties.
Ted: What makes your store special?
Bex: Offering specialty items and services not found in most other lingerie boutiques, this shop was originally titled a “Bra Fitting Studio”. Impeccable customer service, expert staff knowledge, and a beautiful environment create an unforgettable experience every time. Here you will find bras ranging from A-N cups, maternity/nursing bras, sports bras, shape wear, and much more. Not only does The Fitting Room offer all of these services IN the boutique, but on location as well! With the ability to pack up anything in stock, The Fitting Room becomes accessible to those who cannot visit the shop.
Ted: What do you look for in a brand?
Bex: With a variety of different price points, all of the merchandise we stock is of excellent quality and workmanship. These brands include, Cosabella, Simone Perele, Natori, Elomi, Elle Macpherson, Mary Green, Montelle, Affinitas, Parfait, Soak, Hollywood Fashion Secrets, and more. We also offer some amazing specialty lines from local designers & creators such as, Dottie’s Delights, vintage-inspired lingerie and Leather Laboratory, boudoir accessories and leather creations.
Ted: What are the latest trends?
Bex: Our most popular items and hottest sellers are our bra and panty sets. Lace, T-shirt, Plunge… they all sell like their on fire!
Ted: Describe your price points and size ranges.
Bex: Our bra sizes range from a 30-48 band, A-N cup, and is ever growing. You’ll also find basic foundations, panties, and sexy lingerie from XS-XXXL. Our pricing is very competitive, as we work with budgets of all sizes. Anyone who visits The Fitting Room will never feel as though they cannot afford to buy or find what they need.
Because The Fitting Room travels to different locations, and draws from different areas, the average size of our clientele changes quite frequently.
Ted: What does the average customer spend per visit to your store?
Bex: There is no average, as our prices range from items at $8.00 all the way up to $300.
Ted: Describe your customer.
Bex: Our customer base is mostly made up of women between the ages of 25-60 (with a few younger and quite older), and men (usually married or in a relationship).
Ted: What else can you tell us about your business?
Bex: More often than not, women are repelled by the idea of a bra fitting. Possibly because of pushy saleswomen (and sometimes, salesMEN), being left alone to fend for yourself, or the old woman your mother told you about who forces you to get naked, and manhandles your lady bits in a dark musky fitting room (okay, maybe I’m exaggerating…). Sadly, these reasons and many more, leave a large number of women without correctly fitted foundations. My ultimate goal as a Lingerie Stylist, is to use my expertise and knowledge to lower that number by improving my client’s overall look (in AND out of their clothing), boosting self-confidence, and providing education on proper foundation fit, wear, and care — all while creating a fun experience in a comfortable environment! My services are customizable to each client. I created my “Bra Fit Kit™” (a travel trunk containing a wide variety of bra styles, sizes, colors and brands, as well as other basic foundations) so I don’t have to be tied down to one location. Traveling to my client’s home, boutiques, salons, spas, (or wherever!) is just a small part of the convenience my services include. These services are made available by me to everyone, and include offering high quality products in a wide range of price points. My hope is that by creating an opportunity for women to get fit in a way that’s fun, convenient and affordable, I can educate and transform more women than ever before.
