According to Marcia Shally, national sales manager of Affinitas, the company began producing bustiers three years ago because of consumer demand. “A bustier is a nice alternative to a strapless dress/top. It can be paired with jeans, slacks or skirts to dress up or dress down. It’s also a great piece to wear instead of a regular bra or camisole.” She named great designs, color and affordability as the brand’s keys to success in the category. Affinitas’ bustiers run in sizes 32 to 38, B through DD. The brand’s best-selling styles in the category include the Helen bustier made from “a gorgeous satin with a delicate black lace overlay with detachable straps” in pink, red, purple, black and white satin with white lace overlay; as well as the Samantha bustier, “a seductively sexy bustier in lace and mesh with detachable garters and a lace flutter strap,” in black, magenta, hot pink and champagne, with “pink champagne a wonderful piece for a bride as an alternative color to white, black is perfect for the sexy, romantic look, and magenta and hot pink [as] great fashion colors to give you a burst of freshness with basics such as jeans.” Also best-selling is the Julia bustier in black, “perfect for formal wear but can also be dressed down with your favorite bottoms,” and deep blue and hot pink “if you want a more fashion-forward look.” She expects the bustier business to remain very strong in all categories; basic, sexy, lacy and functional, reporting that the economy has not affected Affinitas’ bustier designing. “The Affinitas bustier business is very strong. Our customers have had very good success with our bustiers because we offer the consumer an incredible product at a price they feel is affordable. They realize the value and at the same time are getting a great fashion piece to wear for more than one occasion.”
