Aerie Q2 Sales +3.2% To $429M

Aerie Q2 sales rose 3.2% to $429.084 million from $415.646 million last year, as “Aerie comparable sales grew 3%.” For parent company American Eagle Outfitters (AEO), earning were $77.633 million on slightly lower sales of $1.284 billion, compared to a profit of $77.264 million on sales of $1.291 billion in the same quarter last year.
CEO Jay Schottenstein, noted that “highlighted by Aerie’s top-line increase and better sell-throughs overall, we achieved our second highest enterprise revenues ever recorded for the second quarter,” adding, “we were pleased to see an improvement in the business” driven “by higher demand, lower promotions and well-managed expenses, all of which exceeded our expectations.”
In the 13 weeks ended August 2, AEO opened six Aerie and Offline stores and closed two, ending with a total for those brands of 325.
