Aerie sales jumped 34% in the first quarter to $480,826,000, up from $359,788,000 in the three months ended May 3, 2025. The surge pushed revenues for the intimate apparel division of American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) to over $2 billion “on a trailing 12 month basis” for the first time.
Jay Schottenstein, CEO of AEO explained that the Aerie results were “driven by compelling product assortments and a deep emotional connection with customers,” and that “the brand achieved exceptional multi-channel growth and profitability, further amplified by the continued relevance of the ‘100% Aerie Real’ campaign.”
Despite the gains at Aerie, the company’s American Eagle division, which offers a variety of other apparel and sportswear, declined 2%, dropping from $693,865,000 last year to $678,476,000 in the latest quarter.
AEO as a whole earned $23,525,000 on total revenue of $1.195285 billion, compared to a loss of $64,899,000 on sales of $1.089599 billion in the same quarter last year. “While results at American Eagle were mixed, our teams are moving decisively to reignite the women’s business and strengthen product execution and brand positioning,” continued Schottenstein.
Looking ahead, AEO as a whole is predicting a comparable sales gain of “mid-to-high single digit” in the second quarter, with operating income of “$45 million to $50 million.” For the full fiscal year 2026 the company is projecting a comparable sales gain of “mid single digit” with operating income of “$390 million to $410 million.”
