Pubic Thong? Retailers React

When Skims introduced its new “faux hair micro string thong” in mid-October, most people laughed, and many thought it was purely a gag. But no, there it was on the Skims website, $32 and already sold out and back ordered in every size (from XXS to 4XL) and in every one of the 12 curly or straight pubic hair colors offered.
Even though Kim Kardashian knows how to sell massive amounts of underwear, my guess is that this will not become a long selling, profitable item for her. She made people laugh. Two weeks before Halloween she had offered an unusual costume idea to her customers. And she had gained a massive amount of publicity for the brand.
But we wondered if there was possibly something more to it. What did lingerie store owners think about this thing. So we asked. Below are some of the responses to the question: “Would this sell in your store? Yes? No?"

“Absolutely would not sell that at our shop, hahaha. My personal opinion is that she sells out of these outrageous products due to her influence and just plain “wtf” from consumers. I doubt she produces that many units of each, so that they sell through looks better and then the media is like “how did this sell out?”

Does Skims wholesale? It’s an amusing product but not one we’d consider selling, I like anything that opens up positive dialogue around women’s bodies, but other than that it doesn’t meet our needs.
